In Christ Alone

We had a service of wholeness and healing tonight at church, which was a beautiful experience for me. We focused on the healing needed in relationships, in all their ways, whether it is friends, family, work colleagues, church family, even with God himself. We discussed how whenever there is a breaking down of a relationship or a situation, there is a certain amount of tearing of flesh, but no matter what, it is in the brokenness where healing can begin.

The thing I love about these kind of experiences is that we are given the opportunity to be honest with ourselves and bring out those things which there is no other way of bringing them out. For example, we may be feeling guilty about something that happened a while ago and while it seems there is a surface repair we don’t necessarily want to rake up past hurts by expressing our feeling that things are not as healed as we would perhaps like them to be. I can think of a situation in my life at the minute that even though it is not exactly “fixed” it isn’t exactly “healed” neither, and so by talking about it and praying about it tonight helps me with handling it, and by placing it in God’s hands and trusting in God’s timing, I feel more at peace with that situation now.

We did’t do any singing as such, but we did listen to some music and as the healing and blessings were done at the altar we have some songs to join in with as and how we wanted to. The video below is of the Getty’s singing one of the tracks we listened to, and I have to say that I can never actually get to the end of this when we sing it in church. The last four lines undo me every single time:

No power of hell, no scheme of man,
Can ever pluck me from His hand:
Till He returns or calls me home,
Here in the power of Christ I’ll stand.

Maybe the day that I can sing these words and not get a lump in my throat or tears in my eyes is the day that I stop believing in the saving grace of God.

Have a listen for yourself. I would love to hear your reaction to it if you haven’t heard this before.
